The first Pontiac vehicle, the Series 6-27, was released in 1926 and was launched by General Motors.
Pontiac was particularly known for producing iconic muscle cars such as the GTO, Firebird, and Trans Am during the 1950s, '60s, and '70s. These decades marked the heyday of American muscle cars, and Pontiac's offerings during this time have become some of the most sought after vehicles on the vintage and second-hand automobile markets.
The 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge Convertible auctioned by Mecum in 2023 was rare and valuable due to several factors. Firstly, it was a second-generation "Laugh-In" inspired GTO Judge, with only 3,783 produced in the 1970 model year. Out of these, only 168 were convertibles, and even fewer were equipped with both a Ram Air IV engine and the Turbo 400 automatic transmission1. Additionally, the Orbit Orange paint job added to its uniqueness. The combination of these rarities ranked it among the rarest Pontiacs to ever hit the auction block, resulting in a final sale price of $1.1 million.
