The recalled mugs were sold online and in stores such as Target and Walmart from November 2023 through January 2024. They were part of four gift sets including a Starbucks holiday gift set with two mugs, Starbucks classic hot cocoa and mug, Starbucks peppermint and classic hot cocoas and mug, and Starbucks holiday blend coffee and mug2.
These mugs pose a danger to users as they can shatter upon contact with hot liquid, potentially causing serious injuries such as burns and cuts. The recall was ordered due to 103 incidents of the coffee glasses breaking, resulting in 56 injuries, including 35 burns across the body from spilled hot liquids, and 21 cuts. Seven incidents required medical attention, including surgery and stitches.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued the warning for the recall of 580,000 JoyJolt-branded "Declan Single Wall Glass Coffee Mugs" due to the risk of burn and laceration injuries1. The mugs were found to crack or break when filled with hot liquids, resulting in 103 incidents and 56 injuries.
