A big Google Maps redesign is now being tested on Android

Google Maps is testing a redesign on Android devices, reintroducing enhancements first seen in February. The update includes more rounded panel corners, partially transparent screens for better map visibility, and a new layout for navigation controls. This redesign, spotted by 9to5Google, is not yet widely available as it is being applied server-side.

The redesign aims to keep more of the map visible while using the app, with changes such as floating direction fields and relocated transport options. Although Google has not officially commented on the rollout, the redesign has been in testing for several months, indicating a broader release may be imminent, possibly aligning with the upcoming Google I/O 2024 event.
