Activision's Vicarious Visions was reportedly developing a 3D platformer Donkey Kong game for the Nintendo Switch, codenamed "Freedom". The project, which involved Donkey Kong grinding on vines, was scrapped after about six months of development in 2016 due to Activision's shift in focus towards the Call of Duty franchise. The cancellation led to the departure of Vicarious Visions' founders, who later established Velan Studios.
