The growing preference for SUVs and crossovers in the U.S. market has led to the decline of traditional sedans like the Chevy Malibu, which General Motors has decided to discontinue. The Malibu's production facilities will now be used to manufacture more SUVs and electric vehicles, including the next-generation Chevy Bolt EV and the Cadillac XT4 SUV.
Despite the shift towards larger vehicles, sedans still offer advantages such as better fuel efficiency and on-road performance compared to SUVs. While American automakers like GM, Ford, and Stellantis are moving away from sedans due to decreasing sales, brands like Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai continue producing them, leveraging cost efficiencies and scale.
