Apple debuts VisionOS 2 at WWDC 2024

VisionOS 2, the updated operating system for Apple's Vision Pro, introduces several key productivity enhancements. These include:

1. The ability to "spatialize" photos from regular photos using AI and machine learning technology, turning photos into interactive experiences.
2. A new navigation option that allows users to switch to the home screen by simply tapping or flipping their hand over to access the control center with notifications, shortcuts, and more.
3. The addition of train support to the travel mode feature on the Vision Pro.
4. Later this year, there will be higher-display resolution and sizes for the Mac virtual display capability, along with mice pairing support. This allows Vision Pro users to view content on a connected Mac within an immersive desktop view.
5. Easier app development for the Vision Pro, with around 2,000 native apps available so far. New volumetric APIs allow for two apps at once, and there's a new dev kit called TableTopKit for games on flat surfaces, as well as new enterprise APIs.

These enhancements aim to improve the overall user experience and productivity on the Vision Pro device.

With the introduction of VisionOS 2, the travel mode feature on the Vision Pro will gain train support. This means that users will be able to use the Vision Pro in Travel Mode while traveling on trains, in addition to airplanes. The Travel Mode is designed to adapt the device to the unique motion and environment of commercial air travel, and now, with the update, it will also optimize the user experience on trains5.
