Austin falls out of top 10 largest cities in the U.S.

After a year as the 10th largest U.S. city, Austin has dropped to 11th place according to July 2023 U.S. Census Bureau estimates. Despite a population increase to 979,882, its growth rate of 0.42% was below the national average. Jacksonville, Florida, surpassed Austin, taking the 10th spot with a population of 985,843. Austin's slower growth is attributed to economic volatility, higher housing costs, and the rise of remote work opportunities.
