The U.S. Department of Transportation has mandated that all light-duty vehicles include an advanced automatic emergency braking (AEB) system by 2029. This new rule aims to enhance safety by enabling these systems to function at higher speeds and detect pedestrians in various conditions, potentially preventing numerous injuries and fatalities annually. Despite the current prevalence of AEB in most vehicles, the updated requirement demands improvements to address limitations in high-speed scenarios and nighttime pedestrian detection.
