The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating Boeing for potentially failing to complete required inspections on 787 Dreamliner planes and for possible falsification of aircraft records. This probe was initiated after Boeing reported the issue voluntarily, following an internal complaint by an employee about skipped tests and falsified records. Boeing is currently re-inspecting all affected airplanes and developing a plan for those already in service.
Boeing's VP Scott Stocker acknowledged the misconduct in an email, stating that the unperformed tests, although recorded as completed, did not pose immediate safety risks. However, this has caused disruptions in the production process, requiring out-of-sequence testing. Boeing has emphasized the importance of adherence to policies and encouraged employees to report any irregularities. Additionally, Boeing faces other scrutiny, including a recent cockpit issue with the Dreamliner and ongoing concerns from past whistleblower cases.
