Norm Phillips, a car parts delivery driver, expressed concerns about the security of his job after a cyberattack on software provider CDK Global caused a systems outage affecting thousands of car dealerships. He worried about the possibility of another cyberattack and felt that if hackers could infiltrate the system and impact his job, there might not be enough security in his current role.
Car dealerships are struggling to manage without CDK's software, resorting to pen and paper for processing purchases, which has significantly slowed down operations. The software blackout has made it difficult for dealers to track customer interactions, orders, and sales, affecting their ability to earn a living and causing millions of dollars in losses. Some dealerships have had to send runners to the DMV to complete registrations manually, leading to delays in the car buying process.
CDK Global is working to restore its Dealer Management System (DMS), which supports sales, service, and inventory for over 15,000 dealerships. The company has successfully brought a small initial test group of dealers live on the DMS and is also actively working to bring live additional applications, including Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Service solutions, as well as Customer Care channels.
