Delta Force: Hawk Ops is attempting to integrate three different current shooter sub-genres into its gameplay2. These sub-genres are:
Large-scale, team-based PvP mode: This mode is similar to Battlefield's Breakthrough, where attackers must take points of interest from defenders, pushing their zones of control further and further back until they're completely run off the map.
Extraction shooter: This mode is similar to DMZ or The Cycle, where players must scavenge for valuable resources and extract them from the map while facing off against other players and AI enemies.
Single-player campaign: This mode is based on the Ridley Scott film "Black Hawk Down," complete with the rights to footage4. The campaign is designed to be challenging and intense, with bullets being extremely lethal and being caught out of position potentially spelling disaster4.

Delta Force: Hawk Ops will offer three distinct gaming experiences upon its release:
Large-scale, team-based PvP mode: This mode, known as Havoc Warfare, is similar to Battlefield's Breakthrough mode, where attackers must take points of interest from defenders, pushing their zones of control further and further back until they're completely run off the map5. Players can choose from four different characters, each with a suite of special abilities, weapons, and tools that make them unique from one another. The map features key fortified areas where using a little recon in advance of an assault really makes the difference between taking an objective and getting stopped at the line.
Extraction shooter mode: Known as Hazard Operations, this mode is similar to DMZ or The Cycle, where players must scoop up anything valuable and take it back to base to sell. Players can buy weapons and mods from a greater marketplace (which can be meticulously modded as in other modes) but can permanently lose them if they're downed while deployed. The goal is to collect valuable items and resell them for in-game currency. This mode introduces risk/reward elements of extraction shooters, as players can lose their weapons and gear if they're downed while deployed.
Single-player campaign: Based on the Ridley Scott film "Black Hawk Down," this campaign will be a challenging and intense FPS experience where bullets are extremely lethal, and being caught out of position could spell disaster3. The campaign is set in the near future and will feature a greater emphasis on tactics and lethality.

Team Jade, a subsidiary of Tencent, acquired the rights to the Delta Force franchise after THQ Nordic had purchased the assets from the original developer NovaLogic in 2016. The rights were eventually sold to Tencent, who then tasked Team Jade with the responsibility of developing a new game in the series. Tencent's role in this process was to facilitate the acquisition of the rights and support Team Jade in the development of the game, Delta Force: Hawk Ops.
