According to Apple's announcements, the integration of ChatGPT into Apple devices will be an optional feature that users need to opt into5. It will not be embedded at the operating system level or made a default feature. Instead, an optional feature will be built into Siri that users must explicitly activate to use ChatGPT. This means that users will have control over whether they want to use ChatGPT on their Apple devices or not. The integration is set to provide users with improved responses and access to ChatGPT's image and text-understanding capabilities. Users can ask questions related to text, documents, photos, PDFs, and more. Additionally, ChatGPT will be available in Apple's new system-wide Writing Tools to help users generate content for anything they're writing about. With the Compose feature, users can similarly access ChatGPT image tools to generate images in a range of styles to complement their writing. Apple users will be able to leverage GPT-4o for free, with no need to create an account. Requests will not be logged, and IP addresses will be obscured. ChatGPT subscribers will also be able to access paid features within the experiences.

Elon Musk expressed concerns that Apple's partnership with OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, may compromise user data security. He stated that if Apple integrates OpenAI at the operating system level, it would be considered an "unacceptable security violation," leading him to consider banning Apple devices at his companies, including Tesla, X, chatbot maker xAI, tunneling startup the Boring Company, and rocket producer SpaceX. Musk also mentioned that visitors to his companies would have to check their Apple devices at the door, where they would be stored in a Faraday cage, an enclosure that shields anything placed inside it from electromagnetic fields. However, Musk did not provide any evidence to back up his speculation about potential security risks.

Elon Musk proposed to ban Apple devices at the companies he runs following the announcement of the Apple-OpenAI deal. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Musk stated, "If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies." He also mentioned that visitors to his companies, including Tesla, X, chatbot maker xAI, tunneling startup the Boring Company, and rocket producer SpaceX, would have to store their Apple devices in a Faraday cage, which is a type of container that blocks electromagnetic transmissions. Musk expressed security concerns regarding the partnership between Apple and OpenAI and questioned Apple's ability to protect users' personal data.
