The FCC has imposed fines totaling nearly $200 million on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon for illegally sharing customers' location data without consent. This action follows an investigation that began in 2019, revealing that these carriers sold location data to third-party aggregators. T-Mobile received the highest fine at $80 million, while Sprint, now merged with T-Mobile, was fined $12 million. Verizon and AT&T were penalized $47 million and $57 million, respectively. The carriers argued against the fines, with AT&T planning to appeal, citing their support for emergency services as part of their defense.
