Adrienne Volpe discovered her grandmother's hidden cash stash in an unconventional way. Her grandmother had pressed thousands of dollars in single bills inside books in her library2. Adrienne and her family had to open every book in the house to find the hidden cash, which amounted to around $10,000 in denominations as small as $20. They initially thought they would find fall leaves between the pages, but instead uncovered their grandmother's secret savings.

Susan Camp attributed her father's habit of keeping large amounts of cash in unconventional places to his frequent travels and his desire to always have cash on hand. She mentioned that he had wrapped $5,000 in aluminum foil and stashed it in the freezer, and they later found $6,000 in a box that once held a bottle of cologne.

Susan Camp and her brother cleaned out their father's home in 2021 after he passed away. It is a common practice for family members to sort through and clear out the belongings of a loved one who has died, in order to organize their affairs, distribute possessions among the family, and sometimes prepare the property for sale or rental. During the process, Susan and her brother inadvertently threw out $5,000 in cash their father had hidden in the freezer, wrapped in aluminum foil. They later retrieved the cash, and also found an additional $6,000 in a box that once held a bottle of cologne.
