The U.S. has several cities among the least affordable, with California being home to four of the 10 least-affordable housing markets in the world, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego. Additionally, the least affordable major city in the U.S. is San Jose, California.
Nine of the ten most affordable cities are located in the U.S., according to a report by Chapman University and the Frontier Centre for Public Policy. The study analyzed average incomes and home prices in nearly 100 major cities across eight countries. Pittsburgh, Rochester, and St. Louis were ranked as the top three most affordable housing markets in the report.
San Jose, California is the U.S. city with the least affordable housing, as it has the highest median home price compared to median household income among major U.S. cities.
