An Indiana judge has ruled in favor of Martin Quintana, allowing him to open his second The Famous Taco restaurant in Fort Wayne by classifying tacos and burritos as Mexican-style sandwiches. This decision comes after a three-year legal struggle over a plaza development agreement that originally restricted the business to selling "subway-style" sandwiches.
The ruling resolves a dispute with the Fort Wayne Plan Commission and the nearby Covington Creek Association, which had challenged Quintana's restaurant proposal. Judge Craig Bobay's decision stated that the original commitment does not limit the type of sandwiches to American cuisine, paving the way for Quintana's Mexican-style eatery. Quintana plans to open his new location within the next few months, offering made-to-order tacos, burritos, and tortas.
