Intel is set to enhance PC connectivity with its new Thunderbolt Share, an app that allows seamless sharing of peripherals, files, and data between two PCs using Thunderbolt 4 or 5 connections. Users can also mirror screens at high resolution and frame rates. The app will be licensed to OEMs for inclusion with new hardware but will initially only support Windows.
Despite its potential, Thunderbolt Share requires both the app and a Thunderbolt-certified device, potentially limiting its usability. Intel plans to charge OEMs a licensing fee, which may affect consumer uptake. Initial partners include major PC and accessory manufacturers like Acer, Lenovo, and Belkin, indicating strong industry interest.
