Creating the soundtrack for the medieval-themed strategy game "Manor Lords" was a challenging task for composers Elben Schutte and Daniel Caleb from Pressure Cooker Studios. With no prior experience in medieval music, they embarked on a learning journey to produce an authentic medieval sound, utilizing period instruments such as the lute and hurdy-gurdy, and requiring improvisational skills from the musicians.
The soundtrack, integral to the gameplay, provides audio cues to differentiate between city-building and battle scenarios, enhancing the player's experience without becoming a distraction. Beyond the game, the soundtrack has been released on major streaming services and sold separately, indicating a broader appreciation for medieval music and its cultural significance.
