Microsoft and Qualcomm are promoting the Copilot+ PCs through a joint marketing campaign that includes setting up retail kiosks in stores like Best Buy. These kiosks showcase the new PCs from various OEMs, highlighting their productivity and creative features.
AI PC SoCs require a performance of at least 40 TOPS (trillions of operations per second) for the Neural Processing Unit (NPU), along with at least 16 gigabytes of DRAM. This performance enables efficient handling of AI tasks, including image generation, speech recognition, and background blurring in video calls.
AMD and Intel are expected to deliver Copilot+ compliant processors later this year. AMD's Ryzen AI 300 series and Intel's Lunar Lake series processors are anticipated to provide the necessary performance for Copilot+ PCs2. However, the exact schedule for Microsoft's support of the Copilot+ features on these processors has not been announced.
