Seven postal workers at the Providence Postal Processing and Distribution Center in Rhode Island have been charged with stealing mail, including gift cards, cash, and checks. The theft ring was discovered after a year-long investigation which revealed that the workers were selectively stealing mail suspected to contain valuables and smuggling it out in backpacks. The U.S. Attorney for Rhode Island, Zachary Cunha, highlighted the scale of the theft, with one backpack found containing checks worth over $1 million. All accused have made court appearances and were released on bond.
