New York banned small shampoo bottles in hotels to reduce plastic waste and combat single-use plastic pollution. The bill, passed in the New York Assembly, is part of the state's efforts to promote waste reduction and recycling policies for businesses.

New York's small bottle ban for large hotels with 50 rooms or more will start on January 1, 2025. This ban applies to small plastic bottles containing hospitality personal care products like shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and liquid soap. Hotels that violate this law will receive a warning for the first violation and will be fined $250 for subsequent violations.
