OpenAI says it’s building a tool to let content creators ‘opt out’ of AI training

OpenAI is developing a tool named Media Manager, aimed at allowing content creators to control the use of their content in AI training. This tool, planned for release by 2025, will enable creators to specify inclusion or exclusion of their works in AI research. OpenAI's initiative responds to criticism and legal challenges over its data scraping practices for AI development, including a lawsuit from major U.S. newspapers.

The Media Manager tool is part of OpenAI’s broader efforts to address concerns about copyright and fair use in AI training. Previously, OpenAI introduced options for artists and website owners to opt out of having their content used in data sets. Additionally, OpenAI is working on licensing agreements and other measures to balance creator rights with AI development needs.
