PlayStation Reverses Course on Helldivers 2 PSN Account Requirement

PlayStation has decided to cancel the requirement for Helldivers 2 players on Steam to link their accounts with the PlayStation Network. This decision came after a significant backlash including tens of thousands of negative reviews which affected other Sony games on Steam. The policy was initially set to start for new players this week and for existing players by May 30.

Arrowhead's CEO Johan Pilestedt acknowledged his role in the controversy, admitting the decision to disable account linking at launch was his, and that communication about this requirement was insufficient. Following the backlash, PlayStation and Arrowhead have decided not to proceed with the account linking policy, allowing players to enjoy Helldivers 2 without additional requirements.
