Runway's Gen-3 Alpha AI video model now available – but there's a catch

Using Gen-3 Alpha costs 10 credits per second of video2. For a 5-second video, it takes about 60 seconds to generate, while a 10-second video takes around 90 seconds. The cost for a 1040p resolution video is 20 credits per second, twice as expensive as the standard resolution4. Users must upgrade to a paid plan, with prices starting at $12/month per editor, billed yearly.

Gen-3 Alpha is expected to improve in the coming months, with a free version of the model also making its way to users at some point. It is the "first of an upcoming series of models" trained on a new infrastructure built for large-scale multimodal training and a step towards building General World Models that can represent and simulate a wide range of situations and interactions, like those encountered in the real world2.
