TJX, the parent company of retail stores such as TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods, has started equipping some store employees with body cameras as a strategy to combat theft and ensure the safety of customers and employees. The company believes that the presence of body cameras will act as a deterrent to potential shoplifters, as people are less likely to engage in theft or violent behavior when they know they are being recorded.

TJX Finance Chief John Klinger mentioned during an earnings call that "It's almost like a de-escalation, where people are less likely to do something when they're being videotaped." The company aims to achieve a balance between protecting the goods and ensuring a safe and easy shopping experience for customers.

The employees wearing the cameras are unarmed loss prevention associates who undergo specific training on how to use the cameras effectively in their roles. The footage from these cameras can be shared with law enforcement upon request or in response to a subpoena.
