The Rabbit R1, a new AI gadget, was initially promoted as an innovative tool for on-the-go question answering with its Large Action Models (LAM) but has faced criticism for its poor battery, limited touchscreen, and inconsistent software. Despite its $200 price, users and reviewers question why its features aren't simply available as a smartphone app, considering it functions similarly to a phone with a touchscreen and camera.
In response to the feedback, Rabbit clarified that the R1 is based on a customized Android Open Source Project (AOSP) build, emphasizing that its operating system and LAM are cloud-based and not replicable through third-party apps or emulators. Despite an Android app called "R1 Launcher" mimicking the R1 experience, Rabbit maintains that their system's unique modifications and cloud integration are essential for the full functionality, which third-party versions cannot replicate.
