The Natrium nuclear reactor can power approximately 400,000 homes when its energy storage system boosts its output to 500 MW of power.

The Natrium nuclear reactor plant in Kemmerer, Wyoming, is expected to come online in 2030. TerraPower will first build the non-nuclear parts of the plant while the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission reviews TerraPower's construction permit application5. Construction will begin in 2025 on the "energy island," where the steam turbines and other machinery that generate power will be. Building Natrium will take several years and, at its peak, will create 1,600 construction jobs.

The Natrium nuclear reactor has a unique feature in terms of electricity production control: its integrated energy storage system. This system allows the reactor to control how much electricity it produces, making it more flexible and able to integrate seamlessly with renewable resources. The energy storage capability enables the plant to boost its output when needed, providing a reliable and efficient source of clean energy2.
