In addition to the 145,000 Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX vehicles recalled due to an airbag problem, Toyota also recalled 13,077 of its 2023 Toyota Crown vehicles. The Crown vehicles are equipped with rearview and/or front view cameras that may not display or show a distorted image due to water leaking into the cameras and causing a short circuit.
The camera issues in the recalled Toyota Crown vehicles were caused by insufficient laser welding, which led to the camera cases separating. This allowed water to leak into the cameras and potentially short circuit, resulting in the rearview and front view camera images not displaying or showing a distorted image.
Toyota is offering a free repair for the camera-related recall affecting certain 2023 Toyota Crown vehicles. Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by Toyota and instructed to make an appointment at a Toyota dealer. The dealers will inspect the serial number of the affected cameras and, if necessary, replace them at no cost to customers.
