Vimeo announced that creators must now disclose to viewers when realistic content is created with AI. This update to Vimeo's terms of service and community guidelines aims to ensure that AI-generated, synthetically created, or manipulated videos aren't mistaken for real people, places, or events.

Vimeo's AI content label system requires creators to disclose when realistic content is created with AI. Labels are recommended for content portraying a real person saying or doing something they didn't, altering footage of an actual event or location, or creating a lifelike scene that didn't take place3. Creators can select a checkbox for AI-generated content and specify whether AI was used for audio, visuals, or both2. A distinct label appears at the bottom of the video, and Vimeo is working on an automated system to detect and label AI-generated content1.

Vimeo's new guidelines require disclosure for AI-generated content that portrays a real person saying or doing something they didn't, alters footage of an actual event or location, or creates a lifelike scene that didn't take place3. The disclosure is necessary when content has been meaningfully altered or synthetically generated using audio, video, or image creation or editing tools.
