Since 2017, a secretive group including tech billionaires like Reid Hoffman and Laurene Powell Jobs has been buying up large amounts of farmland in Solano County, California. Their plan, revealed by The New York Times and called California Forever, aims to build a new city for up to 400,000 residents. The project, envisioned as a walkable city similar to Savannah or New York City's West Village, faces local skepticism and legal challenges. It will be decided by Solano County voters this November whether to allow development, overriding a decades-old restriction law.
